On May 26 Associate Provost Diane Alperin signed for a letter sent certified mail from UFF-FAU President James Tracy requesting documents pertinent to the reorganization of the College of Engineering and Computer Science. This request sought all electronic and non-electronic communications between all administrators and administrative agents in the Office of the President and like parties in the Office of the Provost. UFF is empowered by Florida Statute 447 and the Collective Bargaining Agreement to make such requests of FAU administrators, who are legally compelled to comply. Tracy was assured by Alerpin that this reqeust would be promptly fulfilled. Several weeks later this and subsequent requests for related documents by Tracy and Contract Enforcement Chair Douglas Broadfield remain open, and our requests for explanations are now left unanswered.
The Frank Brogan Administration repeatedly trumpets its commitment to honesty and transparency, yet when it is taken to task on these promises it reverts to stonewalling and silence. Further, the University’s IRM policy reserves the right to the President to monitor faculty and staff communications where appropriate. Fair enough. Yet when that very administrator is asked by faculty representatives to provide records that could shed light on what took place in the decision-making process that resulted in the firing of tenured faculty he apparently doesn’t want to play by the same rules. It’s time to come clean Frank Brogan.
