January 21, 2010. Looking for an item that no longer appears to be on the UFF-FAU website? UFF-FAU is pleased to anounce a new category, “2009 Archives,” accessible on the right hand side of the site’s navigation panel. Archives 2009 includes all posts to the UFF-FAU website prior to December 30, 2009. Information chronicling those final months of the Frank Brogan era–from the BOT’s refusal to abide by the PERC Special Magistrate’s decision on salaries, Dean Karl Stevens’ firing of tenured faculty in the College of Engineering and the ensuing fallout, the plan to downsize FAU through “Project Vision,” to the FAU Administration and Board of Trustees’ continued refusal to acknowledge any violation of the faculty body’s rights in such actions–is all available here. It’s truly been a topsy-turvy year, and we see no point in putting any of it out by the curb!
Another new feature of the site is a “Search” mechanism that allows you to pinpoint data rather than lumbering through dozens of posts. Remember last June, when the American Association of University Professors sent a letter to Frank Brogan registering its concern over the layoffs in tenured faculty and Brogan deferred to Associate Provost Diane Alperin to write a response for him? Using the search terms “AAUP” and “Alperin” will bring up the posts related to this event. Note, however, that the Search feature is not perfect. Because it works with specific terms in some cases it will bring up the page archiving Palm Beach Post story summaries and links that may have to be scrolled through or scanned using the “Find” prompt on your browser. The information on this page will eventually have to be collected elsewhere, but until then this is one minor shortcoming in the feature.
The website is an ongoing project, yet we hope that with consistent improvements it becomes an increasingly valuable source of information for FAU faculty.
