South Florida Workers Power Forum Saturday, May 31st, 1-5 PM South Florida AFL-CIO Hall 4349 NW 36th St #102, Miami Springs, FL 33166 Dear Colleagues, We face unprecedented attacks against workers at all levels. Faculty across the country confront anti-union legislation that makes it difficult to organize and maintain a union. Federal employees have been targeted by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). The Trump Administration wants to dismantle the National Labor Relations Board and the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Services, two independent entities, that protect workers’ rights and keep partisan politics out of determining labor decisions. Only by joining together, as workers across job sectors, can we successfully push back against such anti-democratic attacks and build our strength. As a result, UFF-FAU is participating in the South Florida Workers Power Forum on Saturday, May 31st, at the South Florida AFL-CIO Hall in Miami Springs. The event is organized by a coalition of South Florida labor and community organizations, featuring speakers from the FAU and FIU chapters. The event will be held from 1-5 p.m. Food will be provided. The forum will feature four panels: 1) Organizing against state repression; 2) Organizing for migrant justice; 3) Organizing the unorganized; and 4) Building union power. It will draw together members from the Communications Workers of America, UNITE HERE, Starbucks Workers United, Association of Flight Attendants, National Association of Letter Carriers, International Union of Painters and Allied Trades, American Federation of Government Employees, and more. The goal of the event is not simply to discuss these critical issues, but to build coalitions among unions across sectors to strengthen our power and build critical momentum in defense of all workers’ rights. We encourage you to attend this forum to show solidarity for all workers. We not only need to build the strength of our union on campus, but also to join forces with other unions to strengthen worker power. Sign up here to attend the forum. Meet fellow workers. Be a part of the first event in many years that draws together unions across a wide array of sectors to organize for workers’ rights and against the forces that are challenging democracy as we know it. In Solidarity, UFF-FAU Executive Committee |
