BOCA RATON — Florida Atlantic University’s trustees flouted a recommendation by their own deans today to delay a search for president, voting instead to move forward immediately to find Frank Brogan’s successor. The 9-4 vote, a rare divided decision by the board of trustees, came after a surprise announcement that the Boca Raton school’s 11 academic deans had written a letter requesting that interim President John Pritchett be given at least a two-year term. FAU’s Board of Trustees just voted 9-4 to immediately pursue a search for a new president, defying a request by their deans to delay the move.

FAU’s deans have requested a delay of the search to replace former President Frank Brogan. They are recommending that Interim President John Pritchett be appointed to a two-year term. “This is a request that goes against the norm,” said Nancy Blosser, Florida Atlantic University Board of Trustee Chairwoman during a meeting this morning where trustees are supposed to be defining characteristics they would like to see in a new president.
