The next Solidarity Cinema Series screening will be on February 12 at 7 PM in CU 107 in our campus movies theaters. We will be screening the documentary Freedom Riders (2010) that chronicles the inspirational six months in 1961 when more than 400 black and white Americans risked their lives for by simply traveling together on buses and trains as they journeyed through the Deep South, deliberately violating Jim Crow laws in order to test and challenge a segregated interstate travel system.
We will be joined by Dr. Raymond Arsenault, author of the book the documentary is based on, Dr. Evan Bennett (History), and Dr. Stephen Charbonneau (Film and Media Studies) in the post-screening discussion.
