Celebrating Diversity Teach-In: April 19, noon- 3 PM, Rotunda Under SO Building

On Wednesday, April 19, 2023, 12 pm-3 pm the United Faculty of Florida at Florida Atlantic University will hold a teach-in with our students under the Rotunda of the Social Sciences building in the center of campus.

We will be celebrating diversity in all the ways it manifests itself in our classes, research, and lives. Given the reactionary potential laws attacking diversity, equity, and inclusion being currently considered in Tallahassee, we want to proudly display the multifaceted ways diversity defines our lives and our campus. No law can eradicate an increasingly diverse population within the United States and the ways in which public education must reshape itself to address the needs that extend from it .

FAU is a Hispanic-serving institution with a unique mission to serve a broad group of communities. Furthermore, as both the Orlando Sentinel and South Florida Sun Sentinel editorial boards have recently observed, “FAU is Florida’s most diverse public university. Minorities make up 57 percent of its more than 24,000 students. Two of every 10 are Black. More than half are women.” An attack against diversity, equity, and inclusion is nothing less than an attack against our student body and FAU’s mission to outreach to communities that have been historically excluded from public higher education in the past.

The faculty union and students at FAU celebrate the diversity that defines our institution and country in general.
