Note: The termination of 35 tenured/tenure track faculty at Florida State in May 2009 is of particular concern to faculty at FAU, where a similar plan to reorganize colleges and departments (as took place in April 2009 in FAU’s College of Engineering) is well underway. Such a reorganization, it is believed, will allow deans to lay off faculty as they see fit, bypassing the recognition of faculty tenure and seniority stipulated under Article 13 of the CBA.

Dear FSU Colleagues,

As expected, Provost Abele issued a “grievance denied” decision on all aspects of the layoff grievance at Step 2 of the grievance process.  The Provost’s decision letter is posted at http://www.uff-fsu.org/art/FSUStep2Response20091222.pdf

We expect to file a request for arbitration shortly.  This will put the issues before a neutral decision maker who has authority to impose a binding decision.

Best regards,

Jack Fiorito, President
UFF-FSU Chapter
