December 1, 2010. United Faculty of Florida is not able to use dues for political activities, yet policies that negatively or positively impact our professions are almost always political

Dear Colleague:

As a member of UFF, you are committed to your profession and astute about the external changes
including assaults on faculty autonomy.

What the Florida Legislature does and what kinds of officials we elect to govern this state have a
marked effect on how you do your work on campus. Access to legislators means having the faculty
perspective heard on issues that matter to you. But advocacy means money: Campaign contributions
encourage good people to run for office and provide an open door once they are elected. Term limits
provide further opportunities to encourage new candidates or to assist knowledgeable experienced
legislators as they run for a different office.

We’re asking you to help by donating $1.00 per pay period (or $26.00 per year) to the Political Action
Committee of United Faculty of Florida. Because we cannot and do not use dues for any political
activity, your contribution makes a difference in how effective we are during the legislative session.

Please join UFF’s Political Action Committee by filling in the form (PDF) and sending it today.

In solidarity,

Tom Auxter
