October 21, 2009. FAU Board of Trustees Chairperson Nancy Blosser announced an $88,000 deal with headhunting firm R. William Funk & Associates to search for a new president for the university. Funk is the same firm commissioned by the Board of Governors in the abrupt search for a new state university system chancellor that resulted in the appointment of Frank Brogan to the position last July.

FAU will also pay the expenses incurred by the consultancy related to the search. FAU attorney David Kian told board members that in addition to the $88K paid to Funk, FAU will be obligated for “incidental expenses,” such as advertising, travel expenses, and accommodations of candidates brought to campus. This will likely bring the total for the search to $100,000 or more. The deal was approved unanimously by BOT members at 10:35AM. The search is expected to conclude in March, Blosser said.
